Close up of a keyboard.

This summer I found myself sorting through many old photographs and came across one or two from my music career which I thought could have a place on this website.

The first was taken in the early 90s during a residency at the Europa Hotel in Jersey, where Yolanda and I would perform six evenings a week. The stage looked onto a large dance floor with tables around the sides.

Yolanda and Keith on stage.

I was using a formidable keyboard setup at the time (below) with the now classic Yamaha DX7 above a Roland D50. The stack of gear in the centre and to the right is a Boss 16-track mixer, an Alesis graphic equalizer, three Roland sound modules, a Carlsbo power amp, a Roland sequencer and a HH amp. I also had a Beyerdynamic mic for backing vocals; however, I seldom used this.

Although I used to do a lot of session work on the bass guitar I have very few photographs. The photo below was taken at a theatre in Birmingham in a large production of Grease, which was a stage show long before it became a film with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. I was playing the bass guitar in the pit band, but for one number some of us had to perform on stage, and also 'act' by casually walking off the stage after we had finished. This was not as easy as it sounds, and we had to try it a few times before the director was happy. I remember I wasn't keen on this 'acting' role, but it was all part of the gig.

I wish I had more photos of the places I have played and the people I have played with, but this was before the advent of digital cameras, smartphones, and the selfie. Also, I have never really liked having my photograph taken!
