Get into the MusicThe Japanese Flag.

Album art; blue swirling background with a young woman in a red dress dancing, wearing headphones, at the bottom right-hand side. The title 'Get into the Music' appears at the top.

After purchasing samples of the classic drum sounds used on many popular tracks in the '80s and '90s, I had to think of some music of my own to use them in. It wasn't difficult. Get into the Music uses the solid drum sounds and beats that lend themselves so well to dance music, to which I have added a slightly jazzy feel to create something a little bit different.

I began composing this piece by improvising a simple melody with chords at the piano, intending to change the piano sound at a later stage. In the end I felt that the piano nicely complemented the other instrumental sounds being used, so I decided to leave it as it was.  Get Into the Music is the first piece to be added to Smooth Jazz…and more in 2014.
