Heaven's DoorThe Japanese Flag.

Light entering through a partially opened door, revealing a bright light. A man in silhouette stands in the foreground.

From the moment we are born the one certainty is we are going to die. We don't know how long have, but it's nice to think that our soul will live on when our time on Earth is over.

Heaven's Door is a reflective piece invoking a feeling of calm, where we can contemplate what has gone before and prepare for what is to come. And if it should be that today is our last, we can know that there are friends and family, having trodden the same path, waiting for us on the other side.

The door is open, but before we go through it we should make every moment we have count.

Heaven's Door was written in response to the news that an old school friend had unexpectedly passed away.

The ideas came together very quickly, with the basic shape taking just a few minutes. After adding a drum pattern I started work on the piano part. Here, a simple piano melody gives way to more intricate movement. Usually adding a solo can take days, even weeks, but in Heaven’s Door the solo was completed on the second take. The synthesizer solo was also completed equally as fast. Clearly, some divine inspiration was at work.
